nl-Rainbow / Artist
Six .. How can he possibly be six already?? The theme this year kept getting changed .. mama had this image of him wearing his rainbow suspenders over a white button down shirt and a beret (which I never did manage to buy, but now we own a pile of them - ____ from Oma, so maybe I will get a do-over). Finn could only see RAINBOWS, so we compromised and did both!
After the great turnout last year we decided to move the festivities to the barn for the first time! Yes, in February. No, it is not insulated. Yes, I was cold .. I think everyone was ..

Cakes - yes, there were three again!
- A simple 1-layer vanilla cake quickly decorated with a rainbow of sprinkles. If memory serves me well, we had a Workaway volunteer visiting and so we celebrated with 6 at home on the evening of his actual birthday.
- We shared a general invitation for friends to pop in the following weekend so created dozens of cupcakes frosted in the colors of the rainbow (I saved a dab of each color of frosting for the final cake). How many came? I honestly lost count .. we were celebrating in the barn this year and it was colder than expected. There were at least 20 children and nearly as many adults.
- The final cake was chocolate flavored and cut in the shape of a painter's palette, topped with dabs of frosting "paint" and finished off with a real paintbrush. We were on holiday with friends in Germany where Finn's godmother and her father joined us for dinner and cake for a total of 4 children and 6 adults.

Food
- Snacks: Rainbow fruit and veggie trays
- Drink: Apple juice and Orange juice

Decorations
- We taped up paper "paint splats" wherever we could and framed Finn's "dripping" name in one of the antique frames.
- The FOOD again lent to the decor .. I never managed to get a photo of the snack platters .. one of fruit and the other veggies, both arranged in rainbow similar to these and the photos below.
- I did have these mini artist easels that I wanted to use but ran out of time .. so now they are available in the PARTYTHEEK catalog.

Activity
Each child created a masterpiece featuring their own initial. Applied with painters tape the painted in whatever colors they chose and when dry peeled away the paint to reveal the first letter of the name. So simple but they really seemed to enjoy it and we are still seeing this displayed in our friends' homes!!
Cookie Gift Bags
It was so busy and we were a bit overwhelmed. We never got the cookies packaged up - but they were enjoyed during the party!! This year Finn and our Workaway volunteers helped to decorate the cookies!
- F - whole grain and simple sugar cookies cut in the shape of an artist's canvas and simply decorated with his initial.
- 6 - Sugar cookie painter's pallettes were first frosted with white royal icing and then dabs of "paint" were added.
- Rainbow - Also a simple sugar cookie, simply decorated but next time I would add a bit of sparkle to them!
